HONG KONG
ReplyDeleteIn 1997 the British returned the city to China but on the condition that it could be independent for the next 50 years. So Hong Kong is part of China but it has its own currency, its inhabitants use their own passport and they have always spoken Cantonese.
The city is divided into three parts: Kowloon, Hong Kong Island and New Territories. The island of Hong Kong is where we find most of the skyscrapers that give such a peculiar silhouette to this great city.
Hong Kong is an expensive city where you can spend little if you control where you eat and where you sleep.
Around Hong Kong there are several beaches that you will reach after a short bus ride. The zone of bars of the Hong Kong Island is called Lan Kwai Fong, there is a quite international atmosphere.
Hong Kong cuisine is famous around the world.
The Avenue of Stars is the Hong Kong version of Hollywood's street of fame. Every night at 8 you can enjoy the Symphony of Lights, a show in which the skyscrapers of the city are filled with lights and lasers.
The Hong Kong park is located in the part of the Hong Kong Island. Inside the park you will find the Edward Youde Aviary, a kind of closed tent with lots of tropical birds.
The summers in Hong Kong are humid, which is uncomfortable and unpleasant since it is also very windy. Supermarkets are very expensive and do not have a lot of food selection, even western items are incredibly expensive. Public transportation in Hong Kong is modern, clean and reliable; taxis are cheap and plentiful, although air travel is expensive.

VENICE
ReplyDeleteHISTORY
This city is located in northeastern Italy and is the capital of the Veneto region. It is situated across a group of 118 small islands which are separated by canals and linked by bridges. The city was historically the capital of the Republic of Venice. The Republic of Venice was a major financial and maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a staging area for the Crusades as well as a very important center of commerce (especially silk, grain, and spice) and art in the 13th century up to the end of the 17th century. Parts of Venice are renowned for the beauty of their settings, their architecture, and artwork. Venice has been ranked the most beautiful city in the world as of 2016.
CULTURE AND CUSTOMS
The culture of this historic city is vibrant and intriguing. The city has been referenced in numerous films, songs, novels, poems, all of which have helped Venice spread its allure worldwide. The city is famous for its Venetian Gothic architectural style, back in the 14th century. Also in Italy festivals are very important, they usually dress up with costumes and masks and participate in parades.
-Soccer is the most popular sport and children can be seen playing soccer everywhere.
-Venetians usually stay in Venice during vacation time.
-Men and women greet by shaking hands.
-When a man or woman are introduced, the man slightly bows his head and waits for the woman to extend her hand first.
-Close friends often greet by hugging or kissing both cheeks.
-"Ciao,” meaning “hello” or “good-bye,” is a commonly used informal greeting.
-Friends of the same gender often walk arm in arm in public.
-Venetians spend a very long time cooking and cleaning up afterwards, and their dinners with guests can last from 1 to 4 hours.
FOOD
Venetian cuisine is characterized by seafood, but also includes garden products from the islands of the lagoon. Venice is not known for a peculiar cuisine of its own.
The main meals in Venice have 3 dishes: pasta, fish, occasionally meat, and vegetables. In Venice, pasta or rice is a main staple.
PLACES TO VISIT
Part of the mystery and charm of Venice is its magical alleyways and romantic bridges. Venice seems to literally rise from the waters. This fairytale city is best known for its lagoon thoroughfare, the Grand Canal, flanked on both sides by stunning examples of Venetian architecture. Both the Basilica di San Marco and Palazzo Ducale stand in all their glory at the end of the canal.
Others places to visit in Venice are: Piazza di San Marco, Ponte dei Sospiri and Ponte di Rialto.
SOCIAL ISSUES
Venice is a populated modern city squeezed into an ancient framework, so quite naturally Venice has its share of modern environmental problems.
Water quality
The lagoon is an almost closed body of water, with only three narrow openings towards the Adriatic Sea. Sewage and other kinds of pollution used to be a major problem in the lagoon. It is still a problem, but things have improved immensely in the last decades.
Traffic
Venice suffers of traffic congestion like so many other cities, only in Venice the congestion is made up of a mix of modern and traditional ships and boats. There’s a kind of boat in Venice for each type of vehicles we’re used to seeing on the roads elsewhere, from bicycles to heavy trucks.
Garbage
Garbage is a problem in Venice like it is in every other major city, only in Venice it is so much harder collecting it. It is rather difficult to sweep a canal. As a result, there are often garbage in the canals, but don’t complain, pick it up. After all, that’s why kayaks in Venice has bungee cords on the deck.
Moto ondoso
Moto ondoso means wave movement, and it is one of the largest and growing environmentals problem in Venice and in the lagoon. In a shallow basin like the lagoon natural waves are few and small, but modern motorised water crafts create waves of a size, depth and frequency that is highly detrimental to the city and the lagoon.

SANTORINI, GREECE
ReplyDeleteWhy Santorini is the best place in the world?
First, it is located in an island and have such a beautiful climate, who does not love the best climate?
Even the history of the beginning of the island is fantastic and less common than others. Santorini is what remains after an enormous volcanic eruption that destroyed the earliest settlements on an formerly single island.
About 30.000 years ago an island double the size of today's Santorini was shaped but after two volcanic eruptions the island broke into three pieces: Santorini, Thirasia and Aspronissi.
Speculations suggest that Santorini was the inspiration for Plato's Atlantis. Would not you like to be on the possible lost island of Atlantis?
CULTURE AND CUSTUMES
The natives are very superstitious as they usually carry turquoise stones on all sides; In keychains, jewels or amulets to avoid bad times.
Greece is the place where Tragedy and Comedy originate from the interior of the magestic theatres, defined as the cradle of western civilization.
FOOD.
Now the thing that we love, is caracterized by a lot of flavous and colors, there are a lot of good restaurants with different prices that vary depending of the location; if you want your meal with a spectacular view it is a little more expensive than in a casual restaurant inside the city.
A strong point of those who like Mediterranean food is that the local cousine is tasty and enjoyable, cheeses and goat meat, fish, salads with olive oil, local wines, yogurts and greek desserts will make us mouth water.
The eggplant, musaka is a delicious and very healthy dish. Tzaziki sauce made with greek yogurt, cucumber and garlic is consumed very often in Greece.
PLACES TO VISIT.
The city of Akrotiri with his famous archeological site, where you can see some of the ruins of the Bronze Age. Nearby, is the famous red beach below a spectacular red cliff wall. the beach is accesible along a path of ten minutes from Akrotiti. Also you can visit black sand beaches in Perissa and Kamari, where there are bars and restaurants services.
Futhermore, you can hike through and active volcano and take a bath in a hot water well near the volcano. As wel as, you can do the famous donkey ride or on foot by the steps of Oia. Oia is the most famous, gorgeous and expensive part of Santorini. If you love the sunsets you have to visit Santorini, because the best sunsets can be seen from all angles of the island.
SOCIAL ISSUES.
The huge influx of turists means the island's infrastructure and resources are reaching breaking point. Trafficjams are filling up the tiny island's road with tourists taking to the streets to explore the beautiful island.
Also, the use of Donkeys has been a controversial issue with both the island and tourists, as the locals exploit animal for economic benefit. This is difficult because in high season, locals tend to exploid donkeys with long working days.

ReplyDeleteSANTA CRUZ DE MOMPÓS
ReplyDeleteH I S T O R Y
Founded in 1540 on the banks of the River Magdalena, Mompós played a key role in the Spanish colonization of northern South America. From the 16th to the 19th century the city developed parallel to the river, with the main street acting as a dyke. The historic centre has preserved the harmony and unity of the urban landscape. Most of the buildings are still used for their original purposes, providing an exceptional picture of what a Spanish colonial city was like.
C U L T U R E & C U S T O M E S
Mompós was declared Cultural heritage of Humanity because of its beautiful colonial architecture and for its history so important in Colombia's independence. This is why this beautiful town you can still find very strong traditions even in this times, above all catholic celebration, like: Semana Santa, which is the most important celebration in the town; the feast of the Holy Christ, and others. In addition to the religion, Mompós offers as well many others cultural attractions like: the carnivals, where memory and tribute to their ancestors is made through the dances and the music. Some of the dances are: The Collongos, The Pilanderas, The Farotas, among others. Until a while ago it was institutionalized the "Mompós Jazz Festival" which is carry out in October every year.
F O O D
Mompós food is very delicious and some of them dishes are typical on the coast of Colombia. But there is food that is very local and it would like you a lot! Now we're are going to mention some dishes: Bochacico en viuda (it is a kind of fish), yucca, plantain, rice, salty meat, arroz de pajarito, casabe, suero, almohabana (different from the others regions of the country), queso de capa, bollos: cafonga, plantain, clean, corn, yucca; tamaca (it is a fruit), coast’s cheese, panochas, butifarras and more…
P L A C E S T O V I S I T
This town stopped in time could transports you to ancient time for its architecture in which tells you stories about the Colombia's independence, since it was the first place in proclaiming its absolute independence of Spain and the rest of foreign nations, some of the places are: The Bolivar's Stone, Pinillos School and more. Also, it could you drive to peaceful places to can relax and share with the people you are, like: La Albarrada (beside of the Magdalena's river), Portales de la Marquesa, Hostal Doña Manuela, Plaza de la Concepción, Parque Juan B. del Coral, and more. Besides of the religious canters which are 6 churches and 1 chapel: Santo Domingo, La Inmaculada Concepción, San Francisco, among others.
S O C I A L I S S U E S
The historical center of Mompós is in process of deterioration and unacceptable situation, and the government is not involved at all, and they are not worried about the problematic; also there have been protests of the locals because of the lack of teachers, they are doing the protests because the government said that they were going to bring new teachers and they don't complied with the agreement. Mompós is a national patrimony and it has a lot of history and ancient architecture, but the government is very corrupt and the city is paying the price.

PAIPA, THE BEST CITY IN THE WORLD!
ReplyDeleteHISTORY
Paipa is a little town and municipality in the Tundama Province, a part of the Colombian department of Boyacá. Before the Spanish conquest in the 1530s, it was inhabited by the Muisca people. FOOD
In Paipa you can find tipical’s Boyacá food like almojábanas, pan de yucas, cocido boyacense, tamal, they are delicious plates that you can taste.
PLACES TO VISIT
There are a few interesting places that you can visit while you are in Paipa. First is the Lake Sochagota, a beautiful and natural landscape where you can take photos and sports such as water-skiing, kayaking, as well as running and cycling around its edge. Visiting it is free, and even though you have to pay to the rest of the activities, they're not expensive and you can have an awesome time without going far away, because the lake is right there in the town.
Second, there is the Vargas Swamp. If you are interested in learning the history of the places you visit, this is definitely your place. The Vargas Swamp is the location of the Vargas Swamp Battle which took place on the 25th of July 1819 and was decisive in the fight for independence. A monument to the 14 lancers, by Rodrigo Arenas Betancur, commemorates the battle and it is free to visit it. You can get there by car or by bicycle, because the monument is outside the town, but it is surrounded by lovely boyacenses landscapes that you can enjoy along with your visit.

The thermal bath area covers approximately 5 hectares and there are pools, both public and private, as well as hotels, sports facilities, shops and cafes. SOCIAL ISSUES
There is a problem of pollution generated by the emission of ashes by the three units of Termopaipa. The analysis of the Ministry of Health of Boyacá indicate that these levels of pollution, above what is allowed, are really worrying not only for what it can cause in the health of people in the short term, but the repercussions in the medium and long term. The solution to decrease the contamination is install filters, they can treat the ashes levels.
The engineer who represented the company said that the filters are already in the process of acquisition and promised to transfer the concerns of the community to the President of the company. The company has already signed the contracts for the filters of unit one and will begin maintenance of the filters for units two and three soon, explained the engineer.

ReplyDeleteVENICE
ReplyDeleteOne of the things you absolutely have to do before you die, is giving yourself the opportunity to be amazed with: This unique city with its magical, spectacular scenery is not just beautiful; it is a real miracle of a creative genius, situated in the northeast of Italy and built into an archipelago of 118 small islands linked together by 455 bridges. The waterways form a great framework as streets that depart from the Grand Canal, great way where multitude of boats pass, large ones and small ones, the best known are called as “gondolas”, traditional there.
HISTORY
The city was founded in the fifth century, taking advantage of its particular geography, which gave it protection against the attacks of the Germanic folks. It began under the government of the Eastern Roman Empire (Constantinople), but little by little it became free. When Venice became an independent republic, recognized by the rest of the empires, even the Catholic Church itself; it had an economic power due to its naval and mercantile power. Its location in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, allowed an active mercantile role, which favored the Venetian power at a time. Let's say that Venice was a capitalist power, which in the modern style privileged trade to conflicts. That's why, it was known as “Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia" (which means a fairly quiet city), because of its neutral position towards wars and crusades. Who would not like to visit a city with that essence of peace?
GASTRONOMY
With its unique lagoon location and proximity to the island gardens of Sant’Erasmo, genuine Venetian cuisine consists of some truly flavorful and refined dishes, some of them are Carpaccio with Parmesan cheese and “Mandolato” a crunchy nougat with almond.
TOURISTIC PLACES
What surprises about Venice, is its impressive building structure, a city built entirely on water. You can find unique architecture, such as: The Basilica of San Marco, which overlooks one of the most beautiful squares in the world; La Fenice Theater, one of the most famous opera coliseums in the world, The Rialto Bridge, the most famous of the bridges that cross the Grand Canal; Ca' Rezzonico,a palace which is a particularly notable example of the 18th century Venetian baroque and rococo architecture and interior decoration.
CULTURE
It has a legendary reputation for its extensive artistic heritage and long history as a reference for European painting. The wealth of the powerful of the city (the Church, politicians and certain merchants) allowed to maintain a prolonged patronage on painters, architects and many other artists. Since 1895 the city has hosted the “Venice Biennale”, a name commonly used to refer to the Venice International Art Exhibition, which includes the Venice International Film Festival, born in 1932.
The biggest cultural attraction, the Carnival of Venice, one of the few traditions with more than 500 years that still remain. A carnival full of mysterious, disturbing masks and costumes of the 18th century, is almost like going back in history. The Carnival returned to the life in the 1980s and nowadays lasts a month with shows, balls, music and plays organized all over the city. Lots of tourists go to Venice to see and take part in its magnificent Carnival; walking round in fancy dress in this magical city. Wearing masks has always been more than just simple fun for the Venetians; it is still a strongly felt tradition with deep cultural roots.
The immense cultural heritage of Venice, a summary of its millenary history, was recognized by Unesco with the distinction of World Heritage in 1987 for the historic center of the city and the lagoon.
SOCIAL ISSUES
Unfortunately, residents struggle every day with a lot of discomforts: rats, pigeons, excessive prices, garbage and the invasion of tourists. Many of the houses suffer the invasion of rodents with the rise of the tide, when they enter the houses through the pipes of the bath. Worse is the low tide, when the channels dry up and bad odors arise.

ReplyDeleteÁMSTERDAM, Netherlands
ReplyDeleteWe’re going to explain you why Amsterdam is the best city in all the world.
Amsterdam was founded in 1275 by two fishers around the river Amstel (for that reason his name is Amsterdam), it’s the capital city of Netherlands, it’s the biggest city in the country and one of the most important financial and cultural centers of Europe, also is known as “the world’s capital drugs” ‘cause in this city, the most part of the drugs are legal. Have a population of 1.5 million people, and the most part of them speak Dutch, and has a series of drains around the city, and sometimes look like other Venice.
CULTURE
This city has a rich culture, is a city with a lot of museums, exhibition halls, cinemas, libraries, and handicrafts, even in april, a big number of museums offer free tickets or a big discount.
Also the amsterdamers like the soccer, and has his own team “Ajax of Amsterdam” that is nice team that play in the first division of the “Eredivisie”.
There are three important festivals of music in Amsterdam: SLAM!, Koningsdag and Amsterdam Music Festival with a lot of different types of music.
MAIN ATTRACTIONS
The city of the excesses has a lot of interesting places:
Red neighborhood(De Wallen): this place has that name ‘cause all the lights are reds, and the main attraction here is the sex, in Netherlands the prostitution are completely legal, so this is the specific place to get prostitutes, sex shows like in a cinema, like if you are buying a toy.
Coffee shops: You can find this shops in any part of the city, in these shops you can buy coffee (obviously), and some drinks, but something different of these shops is that you can buy a lot of different drugs, marihuana and not only the plant, also foods like marijuana cakes, marijuana breads, brownies, energy marijuana drinks, magic mushrooms, among others, but remember that in these shops you can´t drink alcohol or smoking, but obviously you can do that in the city.
FOOD
You know where you can find the most delicious chocolate? Yes, here, in Amsterdam, any chocolate, candies, drinks, bars and all of them are so delicious.
Netherlands also has foods very similar like Germany, because they have a similar culture, they love sausages, the candies, the cheese, and yeah, the dutch cheese is delicious and you add it for some dishes like Dijsttafel, that is rice with vegetables, meat and cheese. Stroopwafels, cakes like a waffle but obviously more delicious; Poffertjes that are the crepes of Amsterdam; Erwtensoep, a typical soup of vegetables, meat and legums.
SOCIAL ISSUES
The main problem of Amsterdam is part of one of their main attractions: the drugs; the people of Amsterdam can controlling that because they are trained in this kind of themes, but the foreigners no, they sometimes arrive to Amsterdam to excess their limits around the theme of the drugs, just want to taste the magic mushrooms without problems, the food of marijuana, and other kind of drugs, and in too much cases the people lost the control, lost the knowledge, and the polices can’t help them.
Also, this city is sensitive for some people that don’t like that kind of themes ‘cause Amsterdam is a laic city and the people of there respect all types of likes, but remember that in this world all the people think in different ways and some attractions are controversial, and this city maybe is problematic for them and their likes.
